How To Project Mobile Screen On Wall Without Projector & How To Connect Mobile To Projector: Explained

By Arindam Roy

It’s the end of the world as we know it. The tiny screen on our mobile devices is being replaced by bigger, brighter displays everywhere. One thing that was always hard to watch on a small screen is now a bigger problem, no one wants to see videos or change settings for their phone from across a room. The solution to the problem is mounting your phone on the wall, or a table. However this can be expensive and a hassle to set up, not everyone has a lot of space for extra things. If you have about 5 minutes and some basic supplies this tutorial is for you.

Materials Needed:

Glue gun and glue sticks, Command Picture hanging strips, a drill or a pair of scissors to cut the strips, and a wall.

  • Step 1: First off lets get the frame for this thing, you can buy a cheap plastic frame off ebay or if you have some extra cardboard lying around that you can use to build it out of. The basic shape for the frame is 4 squares across and 2 squares tall. I used 3 pieces of cardboard glued together to make my square walls but if you are using an old picture frame, just demount it.
  • Step 2: Now that you have your frame, cut a small piece of cardboard about as wide as one of the sides of the frame and about a square smaller than the frame. Next cut four pieces of hanging strip, long enough to stick to the top and bottom of each side of your cardboard wall.
  • Step 3: Before assembling it all together glue each piece along the inside edge of where you want them and then add a line of glue around the outside edge in-between them where they are supposed to be glued on. There will be excess glue but don’t worry it will dry in 10 seconds or so.
  • Step 4: Now cut a piece of cardboard long enough to fit on the inside of your frame with about a half inch hanging off of the back. Then cut four small strips about an inch more than a half inch wide, you will know what size they need to be because they will be going over the hanging strip you already glued on.
  • Step 5: After putting glue over the hanging strip on each side glue one of your small strips onto it in the middle and then glue another one about 1/2 an inch from that one. Keep gluing down little strips until you have gone all around and were ready to glue them to your cardboard wall.
  • Step 6: Now that you have your phone frame glued onto the wall glue down the picture hanging strips all around the frame to secure it. Then fill in any gaps with more strips.

How to connect mobile to projector

Mobile projection is becoming an increasingly popular trend. Many companies are now using portable mobile projectors because of their convenience and their ability to be used anywhere. This article will explain how many different methods and ways can be used, including the method that I personally use.

The possibilities with this method are almost endless, but before you can start doing anything you’ll need to set up your projector. This article will also help answer the common questions that people have had about connecting devices to projectors, like how it works and what the technical requirements are.

Is it ok to use other types of cables?

Yes. The type of cable that you use is completely up to you and personally I believe that it’s not something to worry about, as long as the cable is strong enough. Also remember that if you have a computer, laptop or laptop projector then I would recommend using the mini HDMI instead of the regular HDMI cable because it’s more durable and more compatible with other devices.

Which cables should I get?

The best computer video connection cable is a mini HDMI cable, but I personally think it’s good to get a good 1m (3′) length of high-grade USB 2.0 A to B cable as well, just in case you need to connect the device to an older projector. The latest version of USB 3.0 cabling is not out yet but I would personally wait until they are out before I buy any equipment. Besides, mini HDMI cables are compatible with regular HDMI cables so you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues with your devices.

What do I do if my laptop has no VGA port?

If your laptop has no VGA port then you’ll need an adapter similar to this one available here . The connector on my adapter is a VGA connector, the other end is a mini HDMI connector.

The laptop that I’m using right now has an HDMI port so I can’t see if I need this adapter or not but it’s exactly what I need because my laptop’s display is very small and only gets the full resolution of the projector when it’s connected to this type of cable.

How do you connect?

Hopefully, you’ll already have a portable projector, so you can connect the mobile to your projector using this method. If your computer or laptop doesn’t have a mini HDMI port then there are still ways to connect it. I would recommend using a VGA to HDMI cable for the computer and a mini HDMI to HDMI cable for the projector.

One method is to buy an adapter and use that but I personally don’t know if you actually need it or not because people have reported that they can’t get the mobile device to show up in their projector when connected through a VGA adapter, which is why I would recommend using mini HDMI cables, as long as they’re not too thick.

You can also get a USB video connection box like this one , connect your laptop or computer directly into the USB port of the device and then use an RCA audio/video cable like this one to connect your laptop or computer to the screen of your portable projector. This method is the only method that I’ve tried and it works for me, but if you have a mini HDMI port then I would recommend using it instead.

If you’re using a mobile device then you won’t be able to connect it directly to the projector but there’s a way around that too. You can connect your mobile device to your computer or laptop and then use an RCA audio/video cable like this one to connect your computer or laptop to the screen of your portable projector.

Is it ok to connect the cable directly into the projector?

I’ve had people asking me if it’s ok to connect the cable directly into a projector and I’ve found that for projectors that have enough power, you can connect your device directly into the port of your projector. But if you’re using a very old projector then most likely you’ll have more luck connecting your device into an extension cord or power strip that’s connected to the projector.

Does my video cable matter?

The type of video cable you use is also important because if you don’t use an HDMI mini cable then there is no guarantee that your phone will be compatible with the resolution of your projector.

If you’re using a computer, laptop or non-mobile device then I would recommend using a mini HDMI cable. If you’re using a mobile device then the phone itself will decide what resolution it wants to use, but I would still recommend using the mini HDMI cable.

It’s always good to have cables of different lengths to suit your needs and depending on how much room you have, because sometimes you might not have enough room to use a long cable and getting a short cable can be quite annoying if there’s not enough room.

I personally use a cable length of 3′. But it’s good to always have at least 1m (3′) for your mobile device and 1m (3′) for your computer or laptop. That way, you’ll always have your device within reach.

What is the maximum height that I can use my mobile projector?

The maximum height of where you can place a portable projector is about 90-100cm (3-3′) but I don’t really think that there’s any practical limit to it because no matter what height you put it at, the distance from the bottom of the screen to where your mobile device is will be rounded up to what will be the maximum height.

But if you’re using your computer to project your screen then it’s a good idea to place the projector slightly above the screen because you want your image to be as close to being perfectly square, so if you don’t use an extension cord then it would be better to place the projector slightly above the screen.

In short, when projecting an image from a mobile device or laptop, as long as you have enough room on the bottom of your screen and there’s nothing blocking it then it’s ok for a portable projector or projection television. The same goes for non-portable projectors as long as there is enough room on the bottom of the projected image and there is nothing blocking that area.

I have a lot of hair so does it matter if the cables are too close?

I’ve had people ask me if they should change their extensions cable to a longer cable because they have long hair and it would be better to put the cables further away from them. But the answer is no, since both types of cables are constructed in a similar way and there shouldn’t be any issues relating to too much or too little wire length.

As long as your cables are not too close to your hair then it’s ok, and if you don’t want to have a lot of hair around the areas where you’ll be using your projector, then you can always use a mobile projector stand.

How does my portable projector actually work?

When I learned how to connect everything together I was surprised how simple it all seemed but that’s because I had no idea how the technology worked. The first thing that needs to happen is that your device must output an image through an HDMI or DVI cable. You can also use a VGA cable but it won’t display any audio unless you’re using a computer or laptop.

Your device needs to have a video output (which is usually the name of the port on your device) and you need to make sure it’s set to a resolution that fits your projector. You don’t really have much choice with this because most mobile projectors don’t give you the option of choosing a higher resolution.

You can choose to leave everything on the lowest setting or adjust your settings. I’ve tested my devices at various resolutions and it didn’t seem to make any difference on whether I turned on every setting under the sun or not so if you know that your device works at a certain resolution and then just leave it there, then that’s probably all you need to do.
